Treatment techniques involve:
Deep tissue massage/ soft tissue therapy and trigger point therapy:
Helps restore blood supply, decrease pain and stiffness, increase range of motion and enhances muscle performance.
TENS (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation):
Is electrical signals that help break down muscle contractions and relieve pain. Very effective restoring joint range of movement (I.e frozen shoulder) and inflammatory conditions such as sprains.
Dry needling:
Same needles as used in acupuncture except they are used to target trigger points in the muscle to reduce and eliminate pain, increase blood flow and restore muscle movement. Dry needling is also a technique that is aimed to treat and stimulate the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
Electro-needling:
Is a treatment similar to dry needling where the fine needles are placed in the trigger points and are connected via cables to a TENS unit.
It improves circulation of natural analgesics in order to reduce pain. Also promotes the delivery of nutrients to the tissue to speed the healing process.
Cupping (suction cups):
This technique is used to break down muscle contraction and encourage blood supply to the effected area.
Corrective exercise:
(Stretching and strengthening)
We work with you to design a program depending on your condition and occupation to take home that will assist with your recovery.
Prescribed exercises are implemented into your daily activities with information on how to improve posture and keep you pain free throughout your day.
Joint mobilisation:
For full and pain free movements your joints need to move freely in all the directions they were designed to. When they become locked or restricted in any particular direction you may experience pain or stiffness.
Joint mobilisation involves a passive movement of the skeletal joint within its normal range to decrease stiffness and soreness which in turn restores a normal and pain free joint motion.
Taping:
Tape is commonly used for a number of reasons such as:
– To relieve pain, improve joint stability, enhance athlete confidence and performance, reduce injury recurrence and prevent injury.
– Decompression to help reduce swelling by lifting the tissue and allow for easier movement of fluid. Essentially helping our lymphatic system ( the body’s waste removal system) to move easier.
– Tape is also applied to injured areas with the aim to reduce movement in the area and protect from further injury, this includes areas such as ankles, knees and shoulders.
Thermal therapies:
Involves heat and cold therapy which is applied for the manipulation of the body and tissue temperature for treatment and pain relief.
